What is a super-fatted soap?

During the menstrual cycle, our skin undergoes a series of changes: because of the hormonal peaks, its texture is altered. In the first phase of the cycle (= the periods), oestrogen levels and progesterone falls. The skin can appear dull and the reduction of sebum leads to a low moisture retention, nothing abnormal!

To compensate during this phase, it may be a good idea to use a super-fatted soap that helps to better nourish, moisturise and protect the skin.

What is a super-fatted soap?

When using a conventional soap to wash yourself, it eliminates at the same time as the dirt or odours of the day, the hydrolipidic film of the skin. What naturally keeps a stable hydration to protect us from external aggressions is altered: the skin will become dehydrated and may give a sensation of tightness.

Super-fatted soaps, on the other hand, are enriched with oils, vegetable butters or other super-fatted agents that will leave a light protective film on your skin to keep it well hydrated even after the shower!

Nonetheless, it is essential to use a soap that was cold saponified as this method keeps all the properties of the ingredients, including the natural glycerine that nourishes the epidermis intensely. When hot saponification is used, the glycerine is taken out and often added by large cosmetic groups to their premium creams as it is an expensive resource.

The benefits

Unlike conventional soaps, super-fatted soaps are suitable for all skin types. Women, men and children, it can be used by all and on all areas of the body, even the most sensitive ones. It is particularly appreciated by dry skins because it has a moisturising effect that protects particularly those skins that are in need.

During menstruation, the use of a super-fatted soap helps not to let the skin dry out. It is useful to know that when the hormones go back up at the end of the cycle just before the next periods, the sebaceous glands of the face (which release the sebum) are often hyperactive. This leaves the skin oily which is a nest for bacteria, and can follow with pimples. If this phase is particularly pronounced, then it is better to go back to a non-super-fatted soap (still cold saponified) for a few days.

Just like the super-fatted soap that cleans the skin with care, periodic panties are soft, comfortable, non-toxic and made in France with Oeko-Tex certified fabrics. They don’t damage the skin that is particularly sensitive during the menstruations.
